About the role
- Lead design efforts for transforming Industrial Design concepts into functional and manufacturable consumer products
- Work with Industrial Design and Engineering to realize intent and manufacturability/assembly of component parts and assemblies (DFM/DFA)
- Conduct predictive modeling simulations (Linear/Non-Linear FEA, Fatigue/Impact, Motion and Moldflow)
- Develop concepts to be fabricated into working prototypes utilizing rapid prototyping techniques for testing with the intent of mass production
- Develop product drawings and part specifications that execute on the design and functionality requirements
- Provide direction for material selection, design perimeters and ease of manufacturing
- Be innovative focused and deliver concepts that can lead to new product ideas and patentable features on the critical path
- Demonstrate the capability to understand consumer needs and translating them into technical specifications
- Deliver 3D and 2D engineering data to ensure products are executed correctly to the design intent, verified with tolerance stacks and simulations
- Ensure correct, efficient file transfers between all 3D file users; file and archive finished 3D models in recognized formats and locations utilizing PLM for product data management and BOM control
- Manage their portion of the timeline and disseminate knowledge of best practices within the department and drive out inefficiencies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, design, or related field
- 5-7 years of Mechanical Design experience with a consumer/industrial hard-goods industry
- At least 3 years’ Creo experience, including advanced surfacing or at least 5 years in other 3D CAD systems
- Moldflow and Ansys FEA experience a plus or the willingness to learn both
- Evidence of strong systematic problem-solving using proven methodologies
- Demonstrates experience with intellectual property and the patent process
- Track record of leading design work on successfully launched durable consumer goods (on-time, on-cost, on-budget, on-specification)
- Extensive knowledge of plastic, metal, electromechanical and/or glass production design and processing a plus
- Effective planning/organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities
- Understanding of manufacturing processes
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
