About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Counsel students on academic, career, and personal matters for the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions
Advise current and prospective students regarding matriculation, registration, and goal-setting
Attend recruitment, orientation, and admissions events
Lead the New Student Seminar
Provide advisement support to several programs according to department needs
Respond to inquiries concerning the School, department, and program offerings
Liaise with Steinhardt Student Affairs on matters impacting student retention and timely graduation, including leaves of absence and withdrawals

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counseling
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience, including academic advisement, recruitment, admissions, counseling and referrals, or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of New York State higher education laws and policies
Excellent interpersonal, listening, public speaking, and written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
Ability to plan and deliver special events and seminars
Ability to use Peoplesoft to advise students, input program and plan information, track students, and develop and run reports
Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or Student Personnel Administration (preferred)
Background in music or another performing arts discipline (preferred)
