About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide construction engineer function in support of a wide range of construction projects and operations and maintenance activities.
- Perform site visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop technical recommendations with moderate complexity.
- Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
- Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects.
- Focus on awareness of applicable codes, standards and procedures to work tasks appropriately.
- Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.
- Review designs, specifications, and reports produced by other internal engineers and external consultants.
- Provide direction and review of the construction personnel in the development of the construction activities.
- Work independently on smaller construction projects with smaller scopes and maintain oversight of schedule, quality, safety and scope.
- Working knowledge to be able to inspect in-progress construction work to ensure compliance with the contract documents, specifications, permits, and drawings.
- Ability to read, and interpret construction drawings and specifications to determine if the contractor is meeting the engineer of records design intent.
- Ability to prepare a construction management daily construction observation field report documenting contractor progress.
- Liaison between the Project Management division and the operating facility, and between Headquarters and on-site staff.
- For projects at NYPA sites, act as the Project Management division’s chief on-site spokesperson; maintain harmonious liaison with the operating facilities, clients, local government agencies, community groups, and other organizations.
- Represent the Authority at industry conferences committees or task forces.
- For assigned work and projects, provide supervision of maintenance department(s) staff, and contractors, and prepare and monitor the day-to-day work activities of the crafts.
- Work with planners in scheduling work activities; oversee the safety of employees.
- Review job packages to ensure they are complete and current prior to performance of the work.
- Review completed work, job packages, and work orders to verify all steps are complete and to ensure that all data/information is recorded.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of work-related experience preferred.
- New York State Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.
- This role is required to be or become a CPP-1/LOTO clearance holder within 24 months and maintain it for the duration of time in the role.
