About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Ensure work is performed according to safety policies and procedures
- Review and ensure correct PPE is available and used properly
- Create PLOTO and LOTO switch plans for approval
- Lead pre-job briefs, job safety analyses, personal LOTO, and switch-plan LOTO
- Lead comprehensive inspections of solar power plants
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs
- Supervise and train junior technicians on inspection and maintenance procedures
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex system issues, including grid integration and communication problems
- Use advanced diagnostic tools and software to address system performance issues
- Develop and implement corrective action plans
- Create and maintain documentation of inspections, maintenance, and repairs
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for management
- Oversee work-order documentation and provide direction to junior technicians
- Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians
- Contribute to training materials and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2–4 years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field
- Associate's degree in electrical engineering or a related field preferred
- OSHA 30-hour certification
- NFPA 70e certification
- FAA Part 107 certification or proficiency operating drones for aerial thermographic purposes
- Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, solar energy technologies, and grid-tied systems
- Proficiency with I/V Curve Tracers, Meggers, and isolation testers
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior technicians in the field
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to drive confidently and safely
- Ability to stand for long periods and walk up to three miles per day
- Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while maintaining three points of contact
- Visual acuity for depth perception, no field-of-vision issues, and ability to distinguish colors
- Comfort working in extreme heat above 100°F or extreme cold below 32°F for periods exceeding one hour
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable
