About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead by example in promoting a safe working culture in the field
  • Perform approved hazardous electrical energy control procedures and select task-specific PPE
  • Participate in and critique Pre-Job Briefs and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
  • Utilize personal LOTO or act as approved work leader
  • Perform comprehensive electrical and mechanical inspections of solar energy systems
  • Conduct advanced preventative maintenance, including infrared thermography, insulation resistance testing, and I/V curve tracing
  • Help develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for assigned sites
  • Independently diagnose and troubleshoot system and operational issues
  • Operate and troubleshoot in 600Vac and 1500Vdc environments without direct supervision
  • Use specialized diagnostic tools and technical root-cause analysis for equipment repairs and replacements
  • Create detailed documentation of inspections, maintenance, and repairs
  • Prepare technical reports and equipment recommendations for the Team Lead
  • Stay current on industry best practices, safety updates, and emerging technologies
  • Share technical expertise and guidance with junior technicians on-site
  • Improve company training materials’ quality, clarity, and safety content
  • Assist team members and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field
  • Understanding of electrical systems, solar energy principles, and grid-tied systems
  • Familiarity with I/V curve tracers, Meggers, and isolation testers
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
  • FAA Part 107 Certification
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred
  • NFPA 70e certification preferred
  • Strong analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead by example with junior technicians
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to drive safely, stand for long periods, and walk up to three miles daily
  • Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while maintaining three points of contact
  • Visual acuity for depth perception, no field-of-vision issues, and ability to distinguish colors
  • Comfort working in extreme heat above 100°F or extreme cold below 32°F for more than one hour
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable
