About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead by example in promoting a safe working culture in the field
- Perform approved hazardous electrical energy control procedures and select task-specific PPE
- Participate in and critique Pre-Job Briefs and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
- Utilize personal LOTO or act as approved work leader
- Perform comprehensive electrical and mechanical inspections of solar energy systems
- Conduct advanced preventative maintenance, including infrared thermography, insulation resistance testing, and I/V curve tracing
- Help develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for assigned sites
- Independently diagnose and troubleshoot system and operational issues
- Operate and troubleshoot in 600Vac and 1500Vdc environments without direct supervision
- Use specialized diagnostic tools and technical root-cause analysis for equipment repairs and replacements
- Create detailed documentation of inspections, maintenance, and repairs
- Prepare technical reports and equipment recommendations for the Team Lead
- Stay current on industry best practices, safety updates, and emerging technologies
- Share technical expertise and guidance with junior technicians on-site
- Improve company training materials’ quality, clarity, and safety content
- Assist team members and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field
- Understanding of electrical systems, solar energy principles, and grid-tied systems
- Familiarity with I/V curve tracers, Meggers, and isolation testers
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
- FAA Part 107 Certification
- OSHA 30-hour certification preferred
- NFPA 70e certification preferred
- Strong analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and lead by example with junior technicians
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to drive safely, stand for long periods, and walk up to three miles daily
- Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while maintaining three points of contact
- Visual acuity for depth perception, no field-of-vision issues, and ability to distinguish colors
- Comfort working in extreme heat above 100°F or extreme cold below 32°F for more than one hour
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable
