About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Monitor and evaluate solar markets nationwide and execute market and policy priorities under the Vice President of Policy.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of state community solar markets, legislation, regulations, utility tariffs and rates, incentives, tax credits, RECs, interconnection requirements, and project economics.
- Track and analyze regulatory dockets, pending legislation, stakeholder working groups, utility proceedings, and other policy activity.
- Synthesize complex policy and market information into summaries and recommendations for leadership and internal teams.
- Assess financial implications of policy developments and gather revenue and cost inputs for project finance analysis and financial modeling.
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend new market opportunities.
- Support policy strategies through market research, policy positions, stakeholder coordination, and policy initiatives.
- Draft and file regulatory comments, testimony, and other policy submissions.
- Represent New Energy in meetings with lawmakers, regulators, utilities, industry organizations, and stakeholders, including travel to priority markets.
- Build and maintain external stakeholder relationships and develop market intelligence and consensus around policy solutions.
- Participate in industry organizations, working groups, conferences, and forums.
- Communicate findings, developments, opportunities, risks, and recommended actions to leadership and internal teams.
- Collaborate with Development, Project Finance, Legal, Engineering, and other teams.
- Maintain current market intelligence and policy resources for strategic decision-making and institutional knowledge.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4+ years of relevant professional experience in renewable energy, solar, energy policy, regulatory affairs, utility regulation, government affairs, market development, or a related field
- Experience analyzing state energy policy and regulatory frameworks, including legislation, regulatory proceedings, utility programs, tariffs, incentives, and renewable energy markets
- Strong understanding of the U.S. solar industry
- Experience evaluating emerging energy markets and translating policy developments into business and project implications
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including understanding project economics and revenue and cost drivers
- Experience with Excel-based financial modeling required
- Experience engaging legislators, regulators, utilities, industry associations, consultants, and other policy or market participants
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to research and synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, business, political science, environmental studies, engineering, energy, or a related field required
- Direct community solar experience, project finance experience, utility regulatory experience, and advanced degree are preferred or a plus
- Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
