About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, maintain, and continuously improve a large-scale production application
  • Establish technical direction, engineering standards, and development best practices with the Technical Lead
  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain microservices and RESTful APIs using C# and .NET
  • Develop and support cloud-native applications in AWS GovCloud
  • Build scalable, resilient, highly available services processing millions of messages per month
  • Develop and support event-driven and asynchronous solutions using RabbitMQ and AWS SQS
  • Design and optimize PostgreSQL data access and persistence solutions on AWS RDS
  • Deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and Rancher
  • Support machine learning capabilities within the microservices architecture
  • Use AI-assisted development tools, code-generation technologies, AI agents, and AI frameworks
  • Review AI-generated code for architecture, security, maintainability, performance, and coding standards
  • Perform code reviews, mentor developers, and establish engineering best practices
  • Maintain code quality and security through automated scanning and static analysis, including SonarQube
  • Manage source code and CI/CD workflows using Azure DevOps
  • Diagnose and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, messaging, database, and integration issues
  • Partner with operations and engineering teams to monitor production health and availability
  • Support releases, deployments, troubleshooting, and incident resolution
  • Participate in occasional after-hours support for releases and critical incidents
  • Improve architecture, performance, resiliency, observability, automation, and developer productivity
  • Participate in Agile planning, estimation, design reviews, and continuous improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, including significant experience with enterprise-scale production applications
  • Expert-level hands-on experience with C#, .NET Core, and modern .NET (.NET 8/9/10 or similar)
  • Strong experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
  • Experience developing and operating applications in AWS, preferably AWS GovCloud
  • Strong Docker and Kubernetes experience in production environments
  • Experience with Kubernetes management platforms such as Rancher
  • Experience with asynchronous, event-driven, or message-based applications using RabbitMQ and AWS SQS
  • Strong PostgreSQL development experience, including database design, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting
  • Experience with AWS RDS or comparable managed relational database services
  • Understanding of distributed systems, high-availability architectures, scalability, resiliency, and production performance
  • Experience supporting high-volume production systems and diagnosing complex issues across application, database, messaging, container, and infrastructure layers
  • Ability to take technical ownership of a substantial codebase and independently drive complex engineering efforts
  • Experience performing code reviews and mentoring developers
  • Experience with AI-assisted development and code-generation tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable technologies
  • Ability to validate, secure, test, and maintain AI-generated code
  • Experience with SonarQube or similar static code analysis platforms
  • Experience with Azure DevOps repositories, source control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevSecOps practices
  • Understanding of secure software development practices for enterprise and Federal environments
  • Ability and willingness to provide occasional after-hours support for production releases and critical incidents
  • US Citizenship required
  • Preferred: experience with AWS GovCloud, Federal Government applications, machine learning integration, AI agents/frameworks, distributed messaging at scale, observability, Infrastructure as Code, FISMA/NIST/FedRAMP, Agile/Scrum and DevSecOps, and AWS/Kubernetes/cloud certifications
