About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, and grinders.
  • Interpret and analyze technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining processes and required tools.
  • Conduct quality checks using precision measuring instruments to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues, making adjustments as necessary to maintain production efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, document sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Design and manufacture advanced work holding, jaws and fixtures.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary through first article inspection process.
  • Confers with design/engineers, assembly personnel, fabricators, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve machining processes and reduce waste.
  • Document production processes and maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in machining preferred.
  • Experience as a machinist, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Proficient in operating CNC and manual machining equipment.
  • Mastercam experience preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
