Medical Assistant, Family Advocate
Nest HealthMedical Assistant performing clinical tasks under the direction of licensed providers at Nest Health. Assisting families in accessing healthcare and social resources in community and home settings.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform clinical tasks under the direction of the licensed provider, including:
- Take vital signs, collect lab specimens, and assist with exams and procedures using aseptic technique
- Collect patient history, including standardized screening questionnaires
- Adhere to infection control standards including hand hygiene, PPE use, and isolation protocols
- Lead intake for virtual new and existing family visits: introduce the program, collect full medical and social history and consents, and complete screeners before the provider joins
- Complete accurate and timely EMR documentation per Nest Health requirements
- Help families identify and access health and social care resources, including food, housing, transportation, and financial assistance, and follow up to confirm they were able to connect
- Maintain a clinical supply bag; coordinate with management for replenishment as needed
- Transport and set up exam and procedure equipment at community locations; clean and reset between patients
- Drop off lab specimens at designated locations as needed
- On virtual days, support provider panel management by contacting families to schedule annual wellness and well child visits, and following up with families to confirm access to social care resources and specialist referrals
- Assist with patient registration, prior authorization approvals, and administrative workflows, including medical records, diagnostic report, and referral information management
- Actively participate in compliance activities including equipment checks and lab, medication, and vaccine inventory
- Attend team meetings and daily huddles
- Participate in community outreach to support family enrollment and program awareness
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- High school diploma or equivalent; 1–3 years of relevant experience
- At least 1 year of EMR systems experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust with patients, families, and clinical team members across multiple constituencies
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Active BLS/CPR certification
- At least 1 year of experience with vital signs and phlebotomy (preferred)
- US work authorization
- Fluency in English required; bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
- Experience in community health, community outreach, or social services in a community-based organization (preferred)
- Lived experience with or deep ties to the communities served by Nest Health (preferred)
- Startup experience (preferred)
