About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Test new releases of Revenues & Benefits software used by public services and local authorities
Liaise closely with development and product teams to improve software and drive customer satisfaction
Learn and understand Revenues and Benefits legislation and the NEC Revenues and Benefits application
Review functional requirements specifications for legislative changes, enhancements, and new functionality
Produce accurate and thorough test scripts using specifications and predefined results
Test new technologies introduced to the customer base or incorporated into NEC releases
Work with the Lead Test Analyst and Test Manager to complete testing according to project plans and deadlines
Highlight testing items at risk of not being completed on time
Report test results clearly to the Lead Test Analyst, Test Manager, and other colleagues
Update required documentation accurately and promptly
Follow NEC’s quality management system
Contribute to continual testing-quality improvement processes
Assist with testing other NEC applications, including those used by Central Government Departments

Requirements

What you’ll need

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex requirements
Knowledge and understanding of Council Tax or Non-Domestic rates collection and administration
Knowledge and understanding of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction payment and calculation
Good attention to detail
Proven track record of meeting tight deadlines
Investigative mindset to investigate test failures and determine software defect causes
Understanding of impact/risk analysis and ability to align testing activities accordingly
Experience writing test scripts for complex applications
Experience executing test scripts
Ability to investigate discrepancies between actual and expected results
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Understanding of how browser and operating-system versions may affect applications
Basic SQL skills
Experience working with offshore teams
Understanding of the Software Development lifecycle
Ability to work remotely as part of a team
Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Flexible approach to working hours
Initiative in solving functionality-testing problems
Ability to seek information and gather detail to improve knowledge
Willingness to test unfamiliar areas
Pre-existing right to work and travel within the UK; documentary evidence required
Satisfactory vetting and reference checks; DBS check may be required depending on the role
