About the role

  • Providing technical direction and leadership for AWS cloud infrastructure hosting platforms within a customer environment.
  • Designing, implementing and enhancing standardised AWS service offerings and customer environments, leveraging DevOps and Agile practices.
  • Working with Solutions Managers, Architects and Customer Stakeholders on the creation and adoption of AWS roadmaps and strategies to define standard cloud service offerings.
  • Participating actively in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Backlog Refinement and Retrospectives to continuously enhance AWS capability.
  • Defining and implementing end-to-end AWS cloud operations and delivery processes, leveraging Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines and GitHub-based workflows wherever possible.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to ensure high service availability, resilience, security and cost optimisation across AWS environments.
  • Leading incident management activities for major AWS-related issues and promoting a proactive operational support model.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer role building and operating enterprise-scale AWS environments.
  • 5+ years’ hands-on experience with core AWS services including (but not limited to) EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, S3, EKS/ECS, Lambda, CloudWatch and AWS Organizations.
  • Proven experience migrating on-premises infrastructure and workloads to AWS, including assessment, planning, execution and post-migration optimisation.
  • Demonstrated experience modernising application workloads within AWS, including re-platforming, refactoring, containerisation, serverless adoption and cloud-native architectural patterns.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (primary) and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, GitHub Actions (or equivalent DevOps tooling).
  • Solid understanding of DevOps methodologies, version control practices, branching strategies and automated testing approaches.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery frameworks and actively participating in Sprint-based delivery models.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS networking, security architecture, identity federation and cloud governance best practices.
  • Experience with cost management, tagging strategies and financial optimisation within AWS.
  • Proven ability to work independently within a customer on-site environment and manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
  • Scripting capability in at least one language (Python, Bash or similar).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders on architecture trade-offs, risk mitigation and best practice implementation.
  • Understanding and practical application of IT standards such as ITIL.
  • Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements (e.g. security, privacy, ISO27001).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex technical challenges and deliver pragmatic, scalable AWS solutions.
