About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop firmware for XM4, Blackbird, and BigBuddy initiatives
- Participate in the Firmware Guild to promote best practices and team cohesion
- Collaborate with PES, mobile, QA, and cloud teams for integration
- Mentor junior engineers and support onboarding of new engineers
- Drive CI/CD pipeline improvements and firmware standardization
- Refine and estimate deliverables with engineering, product, and user experience teams
- Design and implement APIs, backend services, front-end components, and automation tasks
- Build scalable, highly available cloud-hosted applications with robust security features
- Develop tools for rapid incident mitigation and reusable web components
- Architect self-contained microservices or APIs using content management systems and global design patterns
- Define product and technical requirements with cross-functional teams and align them with business goals
- Drive best practices in code health, testing, and maintainability
- Analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, incorporate feedback, and deliver quality software solutions
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion in significant matters

Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7+ years of experience developing embedded software and firmware for hardware-based products, devices, or systems
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ with experience developing and debugging production firmware
- Hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining embedded Linux systems
- Experience using the Yocto Project to create, customize, and maintain embedded Linux distributions
- Experience with hardware/software integration, device drivers, peripheral interfaces, and low-level system troubleshooting
- Experience developing firmware for connected devices, IoT products, networking equipment, consumer electronics, test and measurement devices, or similar hardware platforms
- Experience with source control, automated build processes, CI/CD practices
- Ability to analyze system performance, diagnose complex technical issues, and implement sustainable solutions
- Experience collaborating across hardware, software, quality assurance, product, and cloud engineering teams
- Ability to mentor engineers, promote development best practices, and contribute to technical leadership initiatives
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical decisions across cross-functional teams
