About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation activities across assigned bank, GL, suspense, clearing, digital, card, mobile money and Nostro accounts
- Ensure reconciliations are completed, reviewed, evidenced and attested within agreed service-level timelines
- Oversee investigation, ageing, escalation and clearance of reconciling items, exceptions and long-outstanding balances
- Perform quality assurance checks for completeness, accuracy, segregation of duties and adherence to reconciliation standards
- Maintain documentation, evidence and audit trails for reconciliations and exception resolutions
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, risk frameworks, internal policies and reconciliation procedures
- Prepare reconciliation dashboards and exception reports for management
- Identify process gaps and control weaknesses and recommend sustainable improvements
- Support internal and external audits
- Engage branches, Head Office units, Treasury, Finance, Operations, Technology and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies
- Escalate high-value, unusual, aged or high-risk reconciling items
- Lead, coach and develop reconciliation staff
- Allocate workloads, manage leave plans and maintain continuity
- Promote automation, standardization and simplification of reconciliation processes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Business Administration or related field
- At least 5 years’ experience in banking operations, finance operations, reconciliations or financial controls
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
- Professional qualifications such as CPA or ACCA are an added advantage
- Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations, suspense accounts, clearing accounts, Nostro accounts, GL controls and settlement processes
- Understanding of operational risk, internal controls, AML, sanctions, KYC and regulatory compliance
- Advanced analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret reconciliation trends, ageing reports, exception reports and root-cause analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of core banking and reconciliation systems
- Stakeholder management and written and verbal communication skills
- Leadership, coaching, performance management and change-management capability
