About the role

  • Conduct a three-month research experiment and present results at end of summer
  • Investigate phishing sites and analyze phish kits or infrastructure commonalities
  • Build machine learning models to categorize/classify deep and dark web threats
  • Investigate emerging threats from stablecoins and cryptocurrencies related to 2025 policy changes
  • Retrieve, analyze, and validate data and test accuracy of reported results
  • Analyze open source, DDW and internal-to-NFCU member data to understand, predict and identify opportunities to improve member security
  • Develop and present proposals on findings to management up to and including senior executives
  • Collaborate with teams across Navy Federal to innovate and automate protections against threats

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Forensics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related degree
  • Applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Familiarity with the concepts of social engineering, phishing, credential harvesting or other threat intelligence relevant to financial insititutions
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Effective research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment to make sound decisions
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies
  • Effective organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM
