About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Engineer and maintain innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust solutions
Working within a feature team and using extensive experience to engineer software, scripts and tools
Producing complex and critical software rapidly and of high quality which adds value to the business
Collaborating to optimise our software engineering capability
Working across the life cycle, from requirements analysis and design, through coding to testing, deployment and operations
Designing reusable mainframe-centric plug-ins, modules, templates, and environment-ready components
Engineering reusable environment patterns and supporting artefacts that integrate core mainframe technologies with distributed and cloud platforms
Implementing repeatable mainframe-driven patterns and tooling that improve environment stability, scalability, and developer experience

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience of working with development and testing tools, bug tracking tools and wikis
A background in solving highly complex, analytical and numerical problems
Strong Python programming expertise, developing scalable and reusable solutions while integrating with mainframe technologies such as DB2, VSAM, CICS, and batch processing environments
Experience applying Python within DevOps, testing, and Agile environments, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and tooling for mainframe-integrated platforms
Experience of implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance
