Key responsibilities & impact
  • Engineer and maintain innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust solutions
  • Working within a feature team and using extensive experience to engineer software, scripts and tools

  • Collaborating to optimise our software engineering capability
  • Working across the life cycle, from requirements analysis and design, through coding to testing, deployment and operations
  • Designing reusable mainframe-centric plug-ins, modules, templates, and environment-ready components
  • Engineering reusable environment patterns and supporting artefacts that integrate core mainframe technologies with distributed and cloud platforms
  • Implementing repeatable mainframe-driven patterns and tooling that improve environment stability, scalability, and developer experience

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience of working with development and testing tools, bug tracking tools and wikis
  • A background in solving highly complex, analytical and numerical problems
  • Strong Python programming expertise, developing scalable and reusable solutions while integrating with mainframe technologies such as DB2, VSAM, CICS, and batch processing environments
  • Experience applying Python within DevOps, testing, and Agile environments, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and tooling for mainframe-integrated platforms
  • Experience of implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance
