About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • You'll take ownership of the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring colleagues are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with UK payroll legislation and internal policies.
  • Working collaboratively across the business, you'll oversee payroll operations, support system and process improvements, and provide expert guidance on payroll-related matters.
  • This includes responsibility for: Managing the end-to-end monthly payroll process.
  • Ensuring payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in line with statutory requirements.
  • Maintaining employee payroll records, including salaries, deductions, pensions, benefits, and statutory payments.
  • Managing HMRC submissions, tax codes, National Insurance, pensions, and year-end payroll activities.
  • Reconciling payroll reports and ensuring all payroll journals are completed accurately.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for payroll queries from colleagues and managers.
  • Working closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll data is accurate and up to date.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiency.
  • Supporting payroll audits and ensuring GDPR and data security standards are maintained.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Highly experienced in managing end-to-end UK payroll.
  • Confident in UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Experienced in payroll systems and advanced Excel.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organised, and able to work accurately to payroll deadlines.
  • A strong communicator who can build effective relationships across HR, Finance, and the wider business.
  • Committed to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive payroll information with integrity.
  • Proactive, with a continuous improvement mindset and excellent problem-solving skills.
