About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build infrastructure to provision vIBANs on demand
  • Design customer-facing APIs for collecting money through different payment strategies
  • Handle collections across the African continent, including payment methods such as STK
  • Own architecture and implementation decisions for the collections and treasury foundation
  • Lead RFCs, diagrams, API specifications, and system specifications
  • Partner with PMs and stakeholders to translate business intent into technical requirements
  • Design and build customer-facing and internal APIs
  • Build reliable infrastructure for vIBAN provisioning and collections orchestration
  • Drive API standards, testing strategy, code review quality, and maintainability
  • Break down complex work, sequence milestones, and manage delivery end to end
  • Make pragmatic trade-offs while protecting correctness in financial systems
  • Collaborate with engineers, follow chapter standards, conduct design reviews, and align stakeholders
  • Deliver a reliable, observable, maintainable collections and treasury foundation
  • Stabilise customer-facing APIs and orchestration paths with clear standards and strong developer experience

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Production experience with Go
  • Ability to translate business intent into technical requirements and clean system boundaries
  • Understanding of financial-grade systems, including correctness, reliability, auditability, and operational readiness
  • Knowledge of maintainability principles such as single responsibility and separation of concerns
  • Understanding of API fundamentals, including consistency, versioning, backward compatibility, and developer experience
  • Strong requirement-gathering skills; able to challenge stakeholders and shape technically sound solutions
  • Design-first approach using diagrams, RFCs, hypotheses, and high-level system visualisation
  • Good API design and reusability practices
  • Ability to write unit-testable code and advocate for quality in code reviews
  • Ability to own complex projects end to end
  • Proven delivery of complex backend or distributed systems in production
  • Experience owning systems from design through build, shipping, operation, and iteration
  • Experience working closely with PMs and stakeholders to shape solutions
  • Experience making pragmatic trade-offs in startup environments
  • Calm, decisive, collaborative, high-ownership, pragmatic working style
  • Nice to have: financial systems experience, virtual account/vIBAN concepts, public APIs, observability, incident response, resilience patterns, region-specific payment methods such as STK, or multi-rail payment orchestration
