About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan, prepare, plant, water, prune, and provide ongoing care for indoor and outdoor plant material
  • Apply horticultural knowledge to improve plant health, appearance, and overall quality
  • Identify plant pests, diseases, and other concerns, and recommend or implement corrective action
  • Maintain proper care practices for foliage plants, tropical plants, annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs
  • Support monthly Greenhouse newsletter content and assist with teaching small horticulture-related classes
  • Answer plant care questions and assist with personal desk plants as needed
  • Document processes and best practices for maintaining plant material and growing areas
  • Use diagnostic equipment to monitor and maintain appropriate soil pH and electrical conductivity levels

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree in horticulture or at least two years of relevant horticulture experience
  • Knowledge of plant pests, diseases, and appropriate treatment methods
  • Ability to work varied hours, including rotating weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and 150 pounds or more with assistance
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt quickly to changing conditions
  • Comfort working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills and strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Valid Iowa driver's license required for travel between work sites in a company vehicle
  • Ability to work at heights of at least 25 feet
  • Experience using gardening tools and performing hands-on manual labor
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft 365
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Innovative problem-solving with a team-oriented mindset
  • Familiarity with Musco solutions is a plus
