About the role
- Execute the setup, programming, assessment, and handover of radio network solutions for Motorola Solutions, encompassing infrastructure such as trunking systems, repeaters, and handheld units.
- Manage the post-sale deployment and integration of digital voice and data communication networks.
- Identify technical malfunctions, perform complex equipment repairs, and conduct scheduled maintenance both remotely and at customer sites.
- Deliver expert technical guidance and training to clients to facilitate effective operation of deployed systems.
- Maintain precise and prompt records of all service operations, including system upgrades, maintenance checks, and repairs.
- Liaise with engineering, sales, and project management units to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction and project success.
- Follow corporate guidelines and rigorous safety standards during all field engineering tasks.
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay informed of emerging technologies and industry standards.
- Oversee the inventory of specialized tools and components necessary for field assignments.
- Participate in an on-call schedule to provide around-the-clock support for essential communication infrastructure.
- Offer specialized technical support for complex applications, including software-based electronics troubleshooting and the optimization of RF and Broadband architectures like digital P25 systems.
- Serve as the Lead Federal Field Engineer for major system initiatives, coordinating team efforts and providing mentorship to junior engineering staff.
- Perform precise system tuning, programming, and performance testing while finalizing all project documentation.
- Collaborate with technical support and product teams to analyze and resolve system defects during the deployment and maintenance phases.
- Generate weekly status reports detailing field activities and project milestones.
- Utilize trend analysis to conduct preventive maintenance routines that ensure continued system reliability.
- Engineer solutions for complex technical hurdles identified during system support or hardware upgrades.
Requirements
- Academic background in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field (Associate's degree required; Bachelor's preferred).
- At least 2 years of professional experience in radio communication systems or similar electronic equipment maintenance and installation.
- Comprehensive grasp of RF principles, network protocols, and two-way radio systems including P25, DMR, and TETRA.
- Competence with multimeters, service monitors, spectrum analyzers, and other standard test equipment.
- Advanced analytical and troubleshooting abilities with a focus on methodical problem resolution.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to convey technical details to varied audiences.
- Effective time management and the ability to operate autonomously in field environments.
- Physical ability to handle 50-pound equipment and work in various, sometimes adverse, outdoor settings.
- Preferred industry certifications such as Network+, CompTIA A+, ETA, or specific manufacturer training.
- Complete familiarity with modern technology and contemporary troubleshooting methodologies.
- Expertise in wired systems (LAN/WAN), including the installation and maintenance of cabling, routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Capability to maintain and troubleshoot server hardware, operating systems, and software infrastructure.
- In-depth knowledge of antenna networks, receivers, and transmitters within R.F. systems.
- Knowledge of packet-switching techniques, dedicated data circuits, and standard telephony.
- Strong digital literacy, including proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) and Google Suite.
- High level of self-motivation and the ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to remain calm and resolve client issues efficiently during high-pressure scenarios.
- Superior command of Motorola systems, including SmartNet, Centracom, MCC Console, and ASTRO A7.x Digital platforms.
- Proven experience with logging systems, RF interfaces, and diverse networking hardware.
- Unique blend of expert multi-site RF system knowledge and advanced computer networking skills.
- Network+, Security+, or similar relevant networking certification is highly desirable.
- Experience with RF infrastructure, ASTRO systems, LMR, P25, and dispatch consoles.
- Professional conduct and excellent communication abilities at all times.
- Preference is given to those with experience in RF Infrastructure Technologies such as Motorola SmartZone, ASTRO Conventional, and Trunked systems.
- Proficiency with essential test equipment—including T1 Test Sets, Communication System Analyzers, and Digital RF Power Meters—is mandatory.
