About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Delivery and facilitation of an online-learning ESL class to HEU members.
- The class is fully online composed of asynchronous learning on Moodle LMS, synchronous workshops via Zoom and Office Hours-short 1-on-1 meetings with clients.
- Meet the specific needs of HEU members by conducting needs assessment and goal setting and responding to those needs.
- Provide appropriate feedback to students to further language learning and aid in meeting goals.
- Create a warm, inclusive and safe online learning environment.
- Assess and provide feedback to students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and best practices of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
- Provide feedback on curriculum and work with team to adjust curriculum to meet client needs and provide an optimum learning experience.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Excellent pedagogical knowledge and experience in online instruction using Moodle and Zoom
- Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods.
- Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience is an asset.
- Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).
