About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Delivery and facilitation of an online-learning ESL class to HEU members.
The class is fully online composed of asynchronous learning on Moodle LMS, synchronous workshops via Zoom and Office Hours-short 1-on-1 meetings with clients.
Meet the specific needs of HEU members by conducting needs assessment and goal setting and responding to those needs.
Provide appropriate feedback to students to further language learning and aid in meeting goals.
Create a warm, inclusive and safe online learning environment.
Assess and provide feedback to students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and best practices of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
Provide feedback on curriculum and work with team to adjust curriculum to meet client needs and provide an optimum learning experience.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Excellent pedagogical knowledge and experience in online instruction using Moodle and Zoom
Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods.
Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience is an asset.
Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).
