About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Create strong partnerships to establish trust and gain confidence in lean approaches
  • Build relationships across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels, focusing on Group Leaders, Group Lean resources, project leaders, field leaders, and Craft workforce
  • Support leaders in focusing effort on culture-building and business outcomes
  • Apply and refine Mortenson’s Kaizen-based continuous improvement approach
  • Create pull from Group and Project Leaders and advocate for thoughtful application of the approach
  • Partner with Group Leaders and project teams to test, apply, and improve the continuous improvement approach
  • Use and steward the approach across General Contractor, Self-Perform, Business Services, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and other work environments
  • Facilitate appropriate tools and develop, refine, and advance their use
  • Assess and improve consistency and effectiveness of the approach
  • Coach and develop Group Lean resources and group leaders
  • Propose and deliver continuous improvement activities that engage and build people while improving business outcomes
  • Engage group leaders in personally participating in continuous improvement activities
  • Maintain ongoing development of technical and leadership capabilities to coach and develop others

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related degree, or equivalent combination of education and technical/field experience demonstrated over multiple years of related work experience
  • Minimum of fifteen years’ construction or manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in a continuous improvement or other operational functional role
  • Ability to travel up to 75% to diverse locations in the continental U.S.
  • Experience facilitating Kaizen
  • Expert understanding of Kaizen and how to apply it
  • Humble learner with curiosity and optimism
  • Proactive self-starter with a growth mindset
  • Excellent reliability and follow through on commitments
  • Excellent trainer and facilitator
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor Group and Project Leaders and Lean professionals
  • Ability to influence through relationship building at group and project leader level
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status
