About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop preliminary substation layouts, one-lines, and equipment concepts to support pursuits and estimating.
  • Apply broad knowledge of physical, P&C, grounding, insulation coordination, AC/DC systems, and equipment ratings.
  • Support equipment selection strategies in coordination with Supply Chain and discipline engineers.
  • Perform high-level technical reviews of third-party engineering packages.
  • Partner with estimating and project development teams to define engineering assumptions and risks.
  • Support development of technical narratives and proposal exhibits.
  • Provide input on constructability, modularization, and execution strategies.
  • Coordinate application-level engineering across physical, P&C, civil/structural, SCADA, and studies disciplines.
  • Serve as a technical liaison with clients, utilities, vendors, and external engineers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns in substation application engineering fundamentals.
  • Lead technical reviews and internal alignment for complex pursuits.
  • Contribute to standardization, lessons learned, and continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Understanding of discipline specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Developing project management and analytical problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of or are familiar with software packages: ASPEN, ETAP, PSSE, CDEGS, AutoCAD, Microstation, Primtech, etc
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Microsoft Excel experience to track and analyze different components and combinations
  • Experience in the T&D industry, preference is given, and preferred, for design experience in the Energy Storage, Solar, Wind industry
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Developing knowledge in system modeling, relay coordination studies, and development of associated protective relay settings (preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role
  • EIT/FE (preferred)
