About the role
- Lead and Grow the Team: Manage engineers across both AI and AI Platform teams. You'll provide mentorship, give direct feedback, and create growth opportunities for a senior team that values autonomy and impact.
- Set Technical Direction: Partner with your team to define the AI roadmap, including where we invest, what we build vs. buy, and how we balance innovation with reliability. You'll help make architectural decisions and ensure we're building systems that scale.
- Deliver with Quality: Own delivery for AI initiatives across the product. You'll work with Product and Design to scope projects, ensure we ship with confidence through robust evaluation, and maintain the reliability users depend on.
- Build Cross-Functional Partnerships: Collaborate with Infrastructure on platform needs, with Product on roadmap priorities, and with leadership on AI strategy. You'll represent the AI teams across the organization.
- Hire Thoughtfully: Help grow the team by identifying great talent, running effective interviews, and making hiring decisions that strengthen the team's culture and capabilities.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years building and operating production ML/AI systems.
- 2+ years of engineering management experience, leading teams of senior engineers on complex technical projects.
- Technical depth in AI/ML: You can engage meaningfully with your team on architectural decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, and provide technical guidance when needed.
- Experience with LLMs and GenAI in production: You understand the unique challenges of shipping AI features (evaluation, reliability, cost, safety).
- A track record of building healthy engineering teams: hiring well, developing talent, giving direct feedback, and creating inclusive environments.
- Strong product intuition: You care about user impact and can partner effectively with Product and Design.
- Excellent communication skills: You can represent your teams to leadership, align stakeholders, and communicate technical concepts clearly.
