About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- The Technical Field Advisor II, Generator Commissioning is responsible for supporting commissioning of Mitsubishi gas and steam turbine generators while under the direction of the site Commissioning lead.
- Typical activities include mechanical commissioning of pump and fan driven subsystems, testing, pipe flushing, inspection, recommendation of setting/design changes, and initial plant startup and testing.
- Follow Mitsubishi Power and site safety requirements while executing daily commissioning tasks for generators and auxiliary systems under the direction of the commissioning lead or senior engineer.
- Support startup, operation, troubleshooting, inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning of large-frame gas and steam turbine generators and related auxiliary plant equipment.
- Read and interpret machine process diagrams, function diagrams, electrical schematics, control logic, generator protection systems, and related documentation.
- Perform or support standard electrical testing, including Hipot, Megger, DLRO, VLF, and power factor testing, and support commissioning of excitation, SFC, generator protection relays, and related systems.
- Support mechanical flushing and commissioning of critical lube oil, seal oil, and hydrogen systems related to the generator.
- Complete documentation, test certificates, drawings, reports, findings, non-conformance updates, and skills training logs for site turnover and commissioning leadership review.
- Provide operator training before commercial operation; communicate effectively with staff and management while protecting confidential information and maintaining integrity.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; an equivalent combination of education and directly related field experience will be considered.
- Power generation experience required, preferably in industrial electrical, commissioning, startup, or directly related field environments.
- Knowledge of large-frame generators and related systems, including transformers, ISO phase bus, GSU, seal oil, hydrogen cooling systems, generator mechanical systems, and excitation systems.
- Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage equipment, electrical safety, NFPA 70E, NEC, NETA, IEEE, NESC, standard industrial electrical practices, generator protection relaying, calibration, electrical circuits, troubleshooting, instrumentation, and controls.
- Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, electronic mail and analytical tools.
- English language proficiency required; Spanish, Portuguese, or Japanese language skills helpful.
- Must be willing to travel up to 90% of the year to remote domestic and international work sites.
- Ability to meet physical job requirements including lifting up to 25–50 pounds, working at heights, in confined spaces, and in loud environments while following safety protocols.
