About the role

  • Select and apply controls engineering techniques for installation, modification, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and startup of Mitsubishi gas/steam turbines
  • Perform on-site combustion tuning of MHI gas turbines using Mitsubishi combustion tuning software and programs (VB, CASS)
  • Provide start-up commissioning, operations and troubleshooting support; determine root cause and implement solutions
  • Verify slot assignment, output, transmitter, failsafe structure, connections, display, system/loop check, operational, functional and tuning of Mitsubishi GT controllers
  • Program Mitsubishi logic controllers and perform instrument loop calculations and set points
  • Calibrate field devices and prepare/submit accurate reports regarding conditions, actions and results
  • Perform countermeasures for pressure fluctuations and special tuning such as load overshoot and Fuel Gas Temperature tuning
  • Overnight travel at least 50% for onsite execution
  • Comply with safety policies, participate in team efforts, and maintain confidentiality and integrity

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) in Engineering from four-year college or university plus three (3) years’ experience; or at least five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in design, installation, start up and commissioning, and/or troubleshooting of heavy industrial gas turbines (target candidate)
  • Must have related gas turbine, controls systems and technical report writing experience from power industry
  • Prior gas turbine tuning experience with DLN and advanced combustion system applications
  • Thorough understanding of combustion process theory and combustion dynamics in MHI gas turbines
  • Knowledge of Digital Control Systems (Netmation, Ovation, SPPA-T3000, TXP, Speedtronic Mark V/VI/VIe, etc.)
  • Knowledge and application of advanced control concepts (Cascade Control, Feed Forward, PID tuning, bumpless transfers)
  • Experience using tuning programs such as VB program and CASS computer
  • Ability to perform combustion tuning on MHI F and G frame gas turbines, including countermeasures for pressure fluctuations and special tuning (load overshoot, Fuel Gas Temperature tuning)
  • Ability to program Mitsubishi logic controllers and verify controller configurations
  • Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet, word processing, email and graphics tools
  • Ability to perform instrument loop calculations, field device calibration and set points
  • Strong reporting skills for customer and internal documentation
  • Willingness to travel overnight at least 50% by land and/or air
  • Physical ability to stand/walk regularly and lift/move up to 50 pounds occasionally
