About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the Compliance team in Japan
  • Create and maintain local regulatory manuals and procedures to ensure AllianzGI’s compliance with applicable local laws/regulations
  • Implement global compliance framework and policies in Japan, and work with regional/global compliance teams as needed
  • Design and execute local compliance program in Japan, covering business advisory, Code of Ethics monitoring, compliance training and testing
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory changes and provide advice on business implementation
  • Maintain strong business relationship and partnership with the Head of Japan and business stakeholders
  • Provide practical compliance/regulatory advice on business projects and initiatives
  • Prepare and present (regularly and ad hoc, as needed) compliance reports to the board, senior management and local committees
  • Manage regulatory examinations applicable to AllianzGI in Japan
  • Support legal and corporate secretarial work on an ad-hoc basis, e.g., legal contract review with external counsel support
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization within compliance operations and work closely with IT business enablement team and other internal stakeholders to manage the required implementation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree in law, finance, business management or similar qualification
  • 10+ years’ working experience in the financial industry with a focus in asset management, in governance functions such as Legal, Compliance, Risk Management and/or Internal Audit
  • Solid local regulatory knowledge and experienced in dealing with regulators
  • Strong business/product knowledge in the asset management field
  • People management experience preferred, with a strong passion for team development, mentoring, and coaching to drive performance and growth
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills, enabling effective cross-functional collaboration and clear articulation of complex issues
  • Have a strong “change and transformation” mindset and curiosity in exploring technology and innovative solutions to achieve process optimization and efficiency
  • Experience in managing change and transformation projects (in the context of technology/automation for compliance) is highly valued
  • Preferred: Regulatory knowledge in 1) Investment Trust Management (ITM), 2) Discretionary Investment Management (DIM) and 3) Type II Financial Instruments Business is preferred
  • Legal and/or corporate secretarial experience
  • AI skills such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, data analytics
