About the role
- Establish the safety standards for the Brantford plant consistent with or exceeding MTI, Ontario OSHA, and local standards
- Ensure compliance with provincial, regional, and local environmental and EHS regulations (MOE, City of Brantford, global environmental regulations)
- Develop short-term and multi-year plans to drive continuous improvement with actionable steps
- Lead implementation and improvement of key sustainability metrics for the Brantford plant
- Provide analysis of EHS performance metrics and improvement recommendations to site leadership
- Assess and recommend improvements for the safety culture at the plant
- Establish and maintain EHS training processes and lead new hire and annual JHSC training
- Ensure regulatory compliance and oversee management of hazardous waste and air pollution activities
- Review and approve new equipment, process changes and chemical changes for EHS impacts
- Track corrective actions from third party inspections to completion
- Lead Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings and act as main point of contact for data/administration
- Establish and oversee plant EHS inspection processes and ensure timely correction of issues
- Coordinate and support investigations and root cause analysis for injuries, releases, near misses and property damage
- Ensure contractor safety management process is in place and compliant
- Conduct safety analyses on job functions and work to reduce/manage risk
- Interface with regulatory agencies and assist in negotiation of permits and regulatory initiatives
- Provide oversight to environmental remediation efforts and sustainability data collection
- Perform and maintain the industrial hygiene program
- Act as resource and champion for continuous improvement/Lean activities (Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Safety or Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical)
- 5+ years’ EHS experience in a manufacturing or a production setting
- 3+ years’ experience with EHS federal regulatory compliance, reporting, training, and tracking
- 3+ years’ EHS experience specific to the province of Ontario strongly preferred
- Must have experience with environmental regulations, standards, and implementation of environmental programs in a manufacturing environment
- Must have knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and implementation of programs in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies
- Experience implementing a safety culture change successfully is a plus
- Proven track record of collaborating with others to implement EHS processes and systems
- Ability to communicate effectively, to motivate others and to promote a positive work atmosphere
- Persistent self-starter who can work effectively and champion projects with minimum oversight
- Ability to instruct/transfer job information/knowledge to others
- Ability to travel regionally is required
- English language proficiency (read, write, listen, speak and understand English)
