About the role

  • Collaborate with product teams to define project requirements and objectives.
  • Conduct usability testing to enhance user experience and improve accessibility.
  • Design fully accessible and user-friendly applications, adhering to VA Digital Service guidelines and United States Web Design Systems (USWDS) standards.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to illustrate design concepts.
  • Lead user research through interviews, surveys, and testing to understand user needs.
  • Translate complex processes into intuitive, user-focused designs.
  • Provide UX guidance and ensure designs align with HCD principles and accessibility standards.
  • Document design activities, user research insights, and usability improvements.
  • Additional tasks as needed to support project success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or related field
  • Proven UI/UX design experience with a strong portfolio showcasing design expertise
  • Experience with Human-Centered Design (HCD) and user research
  • Ability to synthesize research findings and implement design improvements
  • Strong documentation skills, capturing research questions, methodologies, and findings
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Axure
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (Section 508) and best practices
  • Familiarity with Design Systems, Design tokens and how to use them
  • Agile development experience and adaptability to iterative feedback
  • Knowledge of VA/DHA/HHS practices is a plus.
