Collaborate with product teams to define project requirements and objectives.
Conduct usability testing to enhance user experience and improve accessibility.
Design fully accessible and user-friendly applications, adhering to VA Digital Service guidelines and United States Web Design Systems (USWDS) standards.
Create wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to illustrate design concepts.
Lead user research through interviews, surveys, and testing to understand user needs.
Translate complex processes into intuitive, user-focused designs.
Provide UX guidance and ensure designs align with HCD principles and accessibility standards.
Document design activities, user research insights, and usability improvements.
Additional tasks as needed to support project success.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or related field
Proven UI/UX design experience with a strong portfolio showcasing design expertise
Experience with Human-Centered Design (HCD) and user research
Ability to synthesize research findings and implement design improvements
Strong documentation skills, capturing research questions, methodologies, and findings
Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Axure
Familiarity with accessibility standards (Section 508) and best practices
Familiarity with Design Systems, Design tokens and how to use them
Agile development experience and adaptability to iterative feedback
Knowledge of VA/DHA/HHS practices is a plus.
