About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Evolve the systems that power Midnite as it scales across markets, starting with the Canada launch
Design, build, and improve backend and platform systems supporting Midnite’s core sports betting and gaming product
Work on scalability, reliability, service isolation, and regional readiness
Define clean boundaries and interfaces across services and data flows
Contribute to multi-region systems and future market expansion
Improve observability, deployment practices, performance, and operational maturity
Work across app-layer systems and platform foundations
Contribute production code, code reviews, and technical design
Identify failure points, reduce risk, and improve platform resilience
Independently drive complex technical projects from high-level direction through delivery
Partner with the Platform team on architecture and implementation decisions
Collaborate with product engineering teams when platform changes affect product systems
Communicate risks and blockers clearly across time zones
Help create a high-ownership engineering culture in the Canada team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong senior-level backend or platform engineering experience
Experience independently delivering complex technical projects
Strong backend capability in Python, or a comparable modern language such as Go, Rust, Java, or Scala, with ability to ramp on Python quickly
Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and architecture trade-offs
Experience with microservices, service boundaries, eventual consistency, data separation, or reliability engineering
Comfortable working across application-layer systems and platform/infrastructure concerns
Strong written communication and ability to work effectively across time zones
High ownership, strong judgement, and comfort operating in ambiguity
Experience with Flask or FastAPI, Pytest, Mypy, Docker, PostgreSQL, SQS or Kafka, S3, and Terraform
Experience with AWS-hosted systems
Must have the right to work in Canada
Must be currently based in Canada
Must address current or future Canadian work sponsorship requirements
