About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide nursing care to patients requiring specialized judgment and skill
- Float throughout the hospital system across Med/Surg, Stepdown, Critical Care, Emergency Department and Operating Room units
- Assist in staffing clinical nursing positions and accept ad hoc assignments
- Adapt to varying nursing unit protocols, procedures and patient populations
- Coordinate with new teams, patients and families
- Share knowledge and experience with colleagues
- Support and mentor nursing students during clinical rotations
- Train nursing students and precept new associates transitioning into acute care
- Perform specialized nursing assessment, care, evaluation and education for patients and families
- Promote evidence-based practice through research and evaluation of care standards, protocols and guidelines
- Provide leadership excellence in the clinical practice area
- Maintain professional competence, expertise and clinical knowledge
- Direct and delegate patient care activities on nursing units
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- 2 years of nursing experience
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, required before starting unit orientation
- Registered Nurse license in Tennessee, required
- Registered Nurse license in Mississippi, preferred
- Registered Nurse license in Arkansas, preferred
- Advanced Life Support certification from the American Red Cross, preferred
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, preferred
- Flexible and versatile in meeting changing staffing demands
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule according to agreed commitment level
- Must be able to travel independently to assigned locations
- Maintains clinical competencies required to float to various nursing units
- Analytical skills to assess complex patient conditions and develop comprehensive care plans
- Ability to synthesize multiple sources of information
- Skill and proficiency in applying technical nursing principles, concepts and techniques
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations
- Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. frequently
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact
- Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials
