About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide comprehensive scientific consultation supporting account management alongside the internal sales organization in the assigned territory/region
  • Evaluate potential new instrument opportunities
  • Educate, train, and support new and existing customers on MSD instrumentation and data analysis
  • Train customers on MSD assays, instrumentation, and software
  • Assist customers with assay troubleshooting and data analysis
  • Support customers developing their own assays on the MSD platform
  • Attend scientific meetings, conferences, and trade shows and provide feedback and reports
  • Integrate information between sales and marketing groups to resolve customer issues and expand the customer base through scientific networking
  • Provide scientific seminars and conferences to prospective customers as requested
  • Collaborate with account managers in the strategic sales process to expand instrument and consumable sales
  • Present internal scientific peer training sessions to sales, FAS, and management teams
  • Create reports and presentations from assay development visits and new evaluations
  • Provide field feedback to team members, account managers, and internal groups
  • Document activities and customer interactions in Salesforce.com
  • Track, identify, and review new literature referencing MSD products and methods
  • Maintain knowledge of competitor technologies and provide strategic information to the sales team
  • Travel regularly to customer sites and work in laboratory environments as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ph.D. in Life Sciences or related area required
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with equivalent experience considered
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a molecular biology lab, clinical lab, discovery lab, or biochemistry in a research or clinical setting
  • Previous field application or scientific support experience desirable
  • Experience in protein biochemistry is a plus
  • Superior analytical skills and strong scientific fundamentals
  • Logical problem-solving ability and ability to organize and advance project tasks in a structured manner
  • Thorough understanding of immunoassay principles, development, and applicability across research fields
  • Ability to independently execute assay and reagent troubleshooting, optimization, and validation experiments
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate laboratory issues, problems, and results affecting timelines, accuracy, and data reliability
  • Professional presence and strong interpersonal skills for customer interactions
  • Software and software-system competency desirable
  • Ability to travel and work outside normal business hours as needed
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize necessary equipment, move about the office, and travel regularly
  • Ability to work in laboratory environments that may involve chemicals and hazardous materials
