About the role
- You will be challenged with developing features for the flea market app "Mercari," the smartphone payment service "Merpay," and the cryptocurrency/blockchain service "Mercoin" within Japan.
- You will join a team of software engineers with diverse backgrounds and expertise and take on responsibilities as a team member.
- You will be involved in projects aimed at improving the user experience (UX) and specifications from the customer's perspective for Mercari, Merpay, and Mercoin.
- You will engage with the technology and data firsthand and produce tangible outputs.
- Ultimately, you will present your work and actual results at a final report meeting.
- During this internship, you will work to develop actual features integrated into the app and to improve the operation of the app.

Requirements
- Those who can join as new graduates in **October 2027 or April 2028** (start date is flexibly negotiable)
- Employment Status: Intern - Please apply only if you are able to stay in Japan, as the internship must be from within Japan. For those who live overseas, we will provide Visa support and accommodation arrangements.
- Work Hours: Able to work more than 20 hours per week. A 2-3 months of Internship is encouraged. Please consult with the recruiter if you prefer shorter/longer period
- Students aged 16 or older who are expected to join the Mercari Group as **new graduates between July 2027 and June 2028**
- If you have work experience as a full-time employee at another company and that experience is within the last three years, you can participate as a second new graduate. Second new graduates should include their work history in their resume.
- Interest in joining the Mercari Group as a software engineer after completing the internship

- (For residents in Japan only) Those who have experience using various Mercari services
- Experience in delivering results through projects utilizing the latest AI technologies and tools
- Basic knowledge of RDBMS and SQL
- Experience developing/operating products
- Practical or research-level development experience in at least one of the following:
- Backend: API development experience using languages such as Go, PHP, or Java.
- Frontend: Development experience using JavaScript, React, etc.
- Mobile (iOS or Android): Development experience using Swift or Kotlin.
- Machine Learning: Practical experience in ML modeling or development experience in ML systems.
- Platform Engineering: Development experience using Go and Kubernetes.
- Site Reliability Engineering: Development experience using Go, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- Data Engineer: Experience in data aggregation, analysis, or visualization using Python, SQL, etc.
- Security Engineer: Development experience using programming languages such as Go, Python, PHP, or JavaScript.
