About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Schedule patient appointments and enter required information accurately and timely in the computer system
  • Obtain demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors
  • Explain required forms and obtain necessary signatures
  • Ensure medical necessity compliance by obtaining data, reviewing the Compliance System, communicating information, and obtaining signatures
  • Collect patient liability, establish payment arrangements, discuss payment options, and screen for eligibility
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and complete notifications and authorizations within required timeframes
  • Post payments and generate appropriate patient receipts
  • Monitor, review, and resolve patient account issues on assigned reports
  • Communicate professionally with physicians, ancillary departments, nursing units, physicians’ office staff, insurance companies, patients, and families
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation
  • Adhere to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, safety standards, budgetary specifications, time management, supply management, productivity, and quality-of-service requirements
  • Support department-based goals and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff
  • Create compassionate and personalized experiences for patients and colleagues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience in a hospital or customer service setting
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Proficient typing/keyboarding skills
  • No licenses/certifications required
