About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Perform advanced direct and indirect patient care under physician direction
Assist with planning and implementing direct patient care
Document care in patient medical records according to practice policies and procedures
Collect and document patient/family biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, medication, allergy, and environmental data
Record vital signs, height/weight, and chief complaint accurately and promptly
Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers with treatments and procedures
Perform treatments and procedures within the medical assistant scope
Call in prescriptions
Take patient phone calls, offer advice, triage appointments, and stock rooms
Maintain communication with physicians and healthcare team members
Administer medications using the five rights
Process and coordinate referrals and outside-test orders; report results as directed
Collect specimens
Ensure safe care and adhere to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, standards, time, supply, productivity, and service-quality requirements
Support department goals and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff
Travel between the Hogg and Burbank Clinic on alternate days

Requirements

What you’ll need

Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited school; clinical education and/or experience may be substituted for the MA certificate
Current CPR certification within 30 days of hire
One year of clinical experience in a designated specialty area preferred
Ability to understand written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations
Skills for the assigned specialty area, function, or procedures
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and lift for prolonged periods
Knowledge of OSHA and CLIA requirements
Knowledge of HIPAA
Knowledge of general office tasks and filing systems
Ability to travel between the Hogg and Burbank Clinic on alternate days
Bilingual communication ability is required by the role title and patient-care context
