About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform advanced direct and indirect patient care under physician direction
  • Assist with planning and implementing direct patient care
  • Document care in patient medical records according to practice policies and procedures
  • Collect and document patient/family biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, medication, allergy, and environmental data
  • Record vital signs, height/weight, and chief complaint accurately and promptly
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers with treatments and procedures
  • Perform treatments and procedures within the medical assistant scope
  • Call in prescriptions
  • Take patient phone calls, offer advice, triage appointments, and stock rooms
  • Maintain communication with physicians and healthcare team members
  • Administer medications using the five rights
  • Process and coordinate referrals and outside-test orders; report results as directed
  • Collect specimens
  • Ensure safe care and adhere to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, standards, time, supply, productivity, and service-quality requirements
  • Support department goals and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff
  • Travel between the Hogg and Burbank Clinic on alternate days

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited school; clinical education and/or experience may be substituted for the MA certificate
  • Current CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • One year of clinical experience in a designated specialty area preferred
  • Ability to understand written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Skills for the assigned specialty area, function, or procedures
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and lift for prolonged periods
  • Knowledge of OSHA and CLIA requirements
  • Knowledge of HIPAA
  • Knowledge of general office tasks and filing systems
  • Ability to travel between the Hogg and Burbank Clinic on alternate days
  • Bilingual communication ability is required by the role title and patient-care context
