About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support Memorial Hermann's Alvin Free-Standing Emergency Room and League City Convenient Care Center
  • Rotate between both locations as needed
  • Work 12-hour day shifts
  • Perform and document laboratory test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and corrective actions
  • Manage daily laboratory operations, including collections, sample processing, result reporting/distribution, personnel direction as appropriate, and clerical duties
  • Interact with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens, orders, and reported results
  • Comply with laboratory, hospital, system, governmental, and accrediting-agency policies and standards
  • Promote quality patient care, customer service, safety, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain effective relationships with employees and customers and implement corrective actions
  • Participate in interviewing job applicants as needed
  • Support department and system customer service and quality initiatives
  • Promote professional growth and development and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate Degree in Medical Technology (equivalency required for foreign education) or Laboratory Science and documentation of clinical laboratory training
  • Experience in high-complexity testing
  • Medical Lab Technician certification through ASCP, ASCP-International, or AMT, or eligibility for certification with requirement to pass within one year of employment
  • Functional knowledge of system computers as required by job assignment
  • Compliance with laboratory, hospital, system, governmental, and accrediting-agency standards, including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA
  • Ability to perform laboratory testing, quality control, maintenance procedures, collections, sample processing, result reporting/distribution, and clerical duties
  • Ability to ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Ability to meet mandatory/continuing education and skills competency requirements
