About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform patient care activities, including identifying and responding to abnormal findings and escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living, including elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, mobility, bathing, and toileting
  • Provide direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Measure vital signs and visually monitor patients’ conditions
  • Accurately document patient information and report unusual changes or findings to the nurse
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Follow safety rules, Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards
  • Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors while managing time, supplies, productivity, and service quality
  • Complete mandatory/continuing education and skills competency requirements
  • Support department-based goals and contribute to organizational success
  • Create compassionate and personalized experiences for patients and the workforce
  • Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens as prescribed within the scope of the role
  • Help orient new employees as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • No educational credential required
  • Certified in Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association before hire
  • Two (2) years of prior patient care experience (e.g. Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician) or similar role required, preferably in an acute care setting
  • Phlebotomy skills check off required within 90 days of hire
  • Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT position as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool and validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation
