About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead an ambitious strategic communications programme committed to driving meaningful change towards gender equality
  • Define Flamma’s strategic context, priorities, purpose and goals
  • Analyse political, cultural and media dynamics to identify leverage points, risks and opportunities
  • Develop long-term communications strategies that shape how gender equality issues are understood and acted upon
  • Identify and counter harmful or regressive narratives through strategic communications interventions
  • Lead development and execution of Flamma’s strategic vision and workstreams
  • Guide expansion into new countries and regions
  • Align Flamma’s objectives with broader Meliore Foundation goals
  • Represent Flamma with influential actors across media, philanthropy, advocacy and cultural sectors
  • Develop strategic alliances and serve as a thought partner to gender equality stakeholders
  • Build strong relationships and positioning with Meliore and its programmes
  • Recruit and develop a high-performing team
  • Oversee operations, milestones, strategic goals, deliverables and budget
  • Champion collective responsibility for network strategy and establish scalable organisational processes
  • Ensure programme staff wellbeing
  • Oversee development of a monitoring, evaluation and learning framework
  • Ensure rigorous monitoring and evaluation and adjust strategies as needed
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements

  • Cultivate multi-year funding relationships at foundation-wide level
  • Oversee programme financial management and accountability

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Empathic leadership skills, with an entrepreneurial mindset and collegiate approach to work, comfortable navigating uncertainty with creativity and purpose
  • Strong political judgement in complex and fast-moving environments, assessing risks, windows of opportunity and potential backlash across diverse geographic contexts to advance social or gender justice goals
  • Minimum 15+ years of leadership experience in strategic communications, campaigns, or movement-building, ideally advancing gender justice issues
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and managing complex, cross-sector initiatives
  • Strong strategic communications and political framing skills, with the ability to translate complex social dynamics into compelling narratives and influence-oriented interventions
  • Significant track record in partnership development, stakeholder engagement and funder relations, with strong networking and relationship-building skills
  • Significant experience in fundraising and a proven track record in mobilising philanthropic capital
  • Proven management experience, including strategy development, operational planning and budget management
  • Outstanding English language skills, with a track record of producing engaging and impactful communications materials; additional languages are an asset
  • Versatility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment across multiple time zones, utilizing tools such as Slack and Google Workspace
  • Commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach towards advancing gender equality
