About the role
- Lead a team of Systems Engineers in the definition, development, integration, and validation of complex medical device systems used in surgical procedures
- Report to the Senior Director of Systems Engineering and help with strategy, vision, development, and execution of the Systems Engineering team
- Lead cross-functional teams to make timely decisions and recommendations to achieve major organizational objectives
- Drive functional strategy, process improvements, functional best practices, and organizational changes to advance Systems Engineering
- Provide direct management, mentorship, talent development, and recruitment for the Systems Engineering team
- Plan, evaluate, and develop technical solutions communicating across Business Units and with functional partners
- Lead multiple system engineering activities across the product development life cycle including identification, planning, monitoring and executing tasks for entire projects
- Provide authority and guidance on medical product development, regulatory requirements, design controls, and quality management systems
- Advocate for model-based systems tools, processes, and practices and identify long-term opportunities over a 3-5 year horizon
- Influence budget/P&L and initiate programs or projects based on business needs
- Travel as needed (~20%) and participate in organizational leadership, hiring, promotions, and performance management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline (minimum requirement)
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of managerial experience
- Demonstrated excellence in Systems Engineering
- Systems engineering experience across the product lifecycle
- Extensive knowledge of global regulatory expectations, design controls, and quality management systems
- Detailed understanding of patient safety risk management
- Experience in integrating and delivering complex medical device systems
- Experience defining, integrating, and validating artificial intelligence, cloud based applications, and multi-function devices within a regulated environment
- Advanced degree in Systems, Electrical, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering (nice to have)
- Experience working in a medical, aerospace, defense, or other relevant regulated industry (nice to have)
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Travel as needed, approximately 20%
- People management experience (managing large teams, mentoring, hiring, performance management)
