About the role
- Development and review of formulations.
- Apply pharmaceutical principles to design customized formulations for a wide range of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms for human or veterinary use.
- Develop formulations for dosage forms including, but not limited to: Oral forms: liquids, tablets, capsules, lozenges, chewables/gummies. Topical forms: creams, gels, ointments. Suppositories: rectal and vaginal. Ophthalmic and otic forms: drops and ointments. Nasal forms: sprays and ointments. Injectable forms: intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous.
- Create detailed ingredient datasheets describing properties (e.g., solubility data, sensitivities, interactions) of active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients used in formulations.
- Perform accurate calculations to determine the quantities of each ingredient required to prepare a formulation.
- Gather clinical documentation to support the stability, safety, and efficacy of the customized formulation.
- Verify chemical compatibilities, the rationale and justification for compounding, therapeutic considerations, and potential patent issues.
- Use pharmaceutical resources to develop the formulation technical file, including step-by-step procedures, ingredient-specific sensitivities and interactions, supplemental labeling, beyond-use date (BUD) information, references, and more.
- Collaborate with the approving pharmacist throughout the formulation approval process and ensure the accuracy of the final formulation.
- Consult legal, regulatory, quality control, and research & development teams for any additional checks related to the formulation.
- Troubleshoot compounding-related issues and validate customer complaints.
- Work with quality control and research & development teams to review, validate, or resolve customer complaints related to compounded preparations.
- Support troubleshooting activities to ensure the accuracy, quality, and performance of formulations.
- Provide technical support and cross-functional collaboration.
- Serve as a technical resource for internal stakeholders and external customers by providing expert guidance on formulation and compounding matters.
- Participate in priority projects and cross-functional initiatives related to formula development and process improvement.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a scientific discipline.
- More than 5 years of experience in formulation development (drug development).
- Experience with compounding is an asset.
- Knowledge of the following regulations and guidelines is considered an asset: USP, NAPRA, APF, FDA, Health Canada, TGA, and other national or provincial authorities.
- Strong customer-service orientation with excellent listening and communication skills.
- Demonstrated judgment, ethics, and decision-making ability.
- Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Advanced mathematical and technical skills.
- Excellent communication skills: fluency in English (spoken and written) and French (spoken and written) is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in English is required, as we serve U.S. and Canadian customers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required.
