About the role
- Oversee payroll, premium billing, vendor management, administrative checks, and year-end close in coordination with auditors and state filings.
- Prepare and present monthly/quarterly financial statements, reconcile accounts, and analyze budget-to-actual performance.
- Ensure timely state filings, statutory reports, and provide ongoing support to auditors and regulators.
- Forecast and manage cash flow, oversee transfers, and maintain fiduciary control of banking access.
- Maintain Sage accounting system, including reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and reinsurance/premium adjustments.
- Supervise, train, and develop Accounting Coordinators, ensuring quality, accuracy, and excellent client service.
- Review and approve administrative transactions, coordinate payroll/benefits/tax filings, and support process and system improvements.
Requirements
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including GAAP and statutory reporting.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex financials for boards and clients.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with Sage accounting systems preferred.
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- CPA and prior industry experience preferred, not required.
- At least 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility.
- Proven track record in financial reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in insurance, reinsurance, risk pools, or related industries a plus.
