About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and execute public relations and media relations strategies for designated practices, industry groups, offices, and individual lawyers
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and key media contacts
- Attend industry networking events to enhance relationships
- Identify trends and position lawyers as thought leaders through media interviews, commentary, speaking engagements, and profile-raising activities
- Pitch and secure targeted media coverage supporting firm business objectives
- Develop compelling storylines for law firm coverage
- Draft, edit, and coordinate press releases, media pitches, briefing materials, talking points, award submissions, announcements, and communications materials
- Prepare lawyers for interviews, speaking engagements, podcasts, and external communications through coaching and message development
- Collaborate with Business Development, Recruiting, Human Resources, and other departments to promote firm achievements and initiatives
- Support placement and promotion of lawyer-authored articles, thought leadership, and firm publications
- Manage external public relations agencies, consultants, and vendors
- Monitor media coverage, competitor activity, and industry developments; provide reporting and recommendations
- Assist with internal communications and advise lawyers and firm leadership
- Manage processes for direct reports involving appraisals, compensation, goals, and performance counseling
- Analyze operational budgets and staffing levels and participate in recruitment
- Implement workflow-efficiency changes
- Perform other assigned duties supporting firm goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business, Communications or related field, required
- Minimum of six years of experience working with public relations/media relations/marketing setting, required
- Prior experience working at a law firm, PR agency or professional services firm, preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, required
- Knowledge of online and electronic newswire services, media tracking and Internet research resources, and website marketing, required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a diverse team environment and support demanding firm needs
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with shifting priorities
- High level of initiative and self-starting ability
- Strong customer service skills and independent judgment
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects
- Confidentiality and discretion
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
- Process and service orientation with leadership and project management skills
