About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own end-to-end new business development for the government segment — building and executing a comprehensive territory plan, generating pipeline through outbound prospecting, channel partnerships, inbound leads, and industry events, and driving deals from first contact through close
  • Navigate complex, multi-stakeholder procurement cycles unique to government entities, including RFP/RFI processes, contracting vehicles, and compliance requirements, positioning Maven's clinical and financial value proposition competitively at every stage
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers across state and local government — including benefits administrators, procurement officers, union trustees, and benefits consultants — serving as a trusted advisor who understands the nuances of government benefits purchasing
  • Represent Maven at government-focused industry conferences, trade shows, and benefits events to build brand awareness, deepen relationships, and source new pipeline in the segment
  • Partner internally with Client Success, Marketing, and GTM Operations to surface market feedback, support RFP responses, and ensure seamless handoffs from sale through implementation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years of experience in government or public sector healthcare benefits sales, with a demonstrated track record of closing large, complex deals with state and local government entities and consistently exceeding quota
  • Deep familiarity with government procurement processes — including RFP/RFI response, contracting vehicles, and multi-stakeholder buying dynamics — and a strong existing network of government benefits administrators, consultants, and channel partners
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate complex clinical and financial narratives for diverse audiences ranging from procurement officers to executive-level benefits leaders
  • An entrepreneurial, self-starter mindset — you are energized by building in a nascent market, are highly organized and process-oriented, and are comfortable operating with ambiguity and significant travel (approximately 50%)
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce) and a data-driven approach to pipeline management, forecasting, and territory planning
