About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design control system architectures based on established standards
  • Perform the calculations required to select servo motors and control components
  • Design pneumatic circuits and perform the related calculations
  • Develop process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Configure robot systems
  • Estimate the costs of control systems and electrical installations
  • Develop system operating modes
  • Lead and coordinate the design of control enclosures with subcontractors
  • Meet project budgets and objectives
  • Define the workload based on deadlines and information provided by the client
  • Track project progress
  • Coordinate electrical installation work with the electrician
  • Conduct machine safety risk assessments
  • Take measurements and gather information at customer facilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • College diploma (DEC) or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or automated production engineering
  • 3 years of relevant experience in automation, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), servo motors, robotics, variable frequency drives, and pneumatic and hydraulic circuits
  • Comfortable communicating in English
  • English proficiency is required to communicate with English-speaking clients
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing and food-processing industries
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards
  • Self-motivated and resourceful
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively
  • Availability for occasional travel in Canada and the United States
  • Knowledge of electrical power installations (600 V and below) is an asset
  • Knowledge of Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLC product lines is an asset
  • Good knowledge of the electrical code is an asset
