About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Engage in consumer advocacy, legal research, and investigations regarding consumer financial services issues, especially student loans and debt
- Assist consumers in navigating federal student loan repayment and debt relief opportunities
- Mediate consumer complaints
- Work on student loan and other financial services policy issues
- Participate in outreach and education initiatives
- Assist experienced Assistant Attorneys General with investigations and litigation of consumer protection matters
- Conduct legal research
- Help implement settlements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Familiarity with financial products, student loans, or the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act preferred
- Ability to learn unfamiliar technical concepts and material quickly preferred
- Excellent work ethic and attention to detail
- Effective research, writing, editing, and oral communication skills required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated interest in working in the public interest
- Connection to the people and communities served
- Interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment
