About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Represent the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in a variety of complex civil litigation matters
  • Work on complex civil litigation teams challenging federal actions
  • Maintain an active caseload, including working actively on litigation strategy, drafting pleadings, preparing and arguing dispositive motions, and trial
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief State Trial Counsel
  • Support, lead and consult with Assistant Attorneys General on specific complex civil litigation matters
  • Work closely with and assist the Chief State Trial Counsel to carry out OSTC’s mission.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar
  • At least three (3) years of relevant civil litigation experience
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant complex civil litigation and trial experience for State Trial Counsel
  • Knowledge of state and federal civil procedure
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced public sector law office and meet deadlines.
