About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist patients in reaching maximum physical performance while adjusting to disabilities
  • Restore patient physical functioning by interpreting evaluations and test results
  • Determine treatment goals and plans
  • Administer manual exercises
  • Instruct, encourage, and assist patients with physical activities and assistive/supportive devices
  • Complete billing sheet accurately by end of day
  • Evaluate treatment effects and adjust treatments for maximum benefit
  • Perform patient assessments and establish plans of care
  • Provide in-service education programs for nursing personnel as needed
  • Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and reevaluation plans
  • Discuss evaluations, goals, and treatment with patients and families
  • Participate in hospital-wide quality process improvement
  • Supervise PTAs according to organization policy and state regulations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy required; licensure prior to 2016 may accept a bachelor's or master's degree
  • Physical Therapist [Rhode Island License] required
  • Licensure from 2016 onward requires completion of a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program
  • Completion of internship or apprenticeship program
  • 1–2 years of experience preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems
  • Effective written communication
  • Teaching ability
  • Problem solving, case management and communication skills
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
  • Basic Life Support [Various Issuers]
  • Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License preferred
