About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height
- Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare equipment for healthcare providers
- Record medical histories, vital statistics, and test results in medical records
- Perform office duties including answering telephones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms
- Act as a liaison with other departments and advocate for patients using a positive customer service approach
- Collect, log, and prepare blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens for testing
- Prepare, clean, and stock treatment rooms
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient patient care
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred
- 1–2 years of direct medical assistant experience or medical field work required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant national certification preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Compliance with local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations
- Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples and other specimens
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches
- Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others
- Ability to meet the listed physical requirements, including frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, balancing, reaching, and handling
