About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- The Senior Pharmacist is responsible for processing medication orders entered in provider-order-entry (and written) by the prescribers
- for promptly and accurately providing medications for administration to patients
- for supplying pertinent, timely, and accurate information to health care workers and patients for the safe and effective use of medications
- The Senior Pharmacist is also responsible for representing the Pharmacy on key programs, such as nutrition support, the Safety Committee, etc.
- This includes acting as a liaison, serving on committees as appropriate, recommending policies and procedures, and reviewing drug and supply requirements for that program
- Coordinates daily workload to coincide with needs of the department
- Checks medication fills (Cassette, Omnicells, Floor Stock, etc.)
- Prepares and processes IV Admixtures
- Processes a sufficient quantity of prescriber medication orders
- Provides drug consultations with all health care personnel and patients
- Detects and assists in documenting adverse drug events. this includes adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and near misses
- Performs and documents target drug interventions
- Maintains necessary record keeping
- provides training/in-service education to Pharmacy staff
- provides training/in-service education to Nursing and/or medical staff
- Ensures that proper drug security and control is performed throughout the day
- completed assigned medication inventory assignments
- Performs extra DUTIES upon request of Pharmacy Director and/or Assistant Director
Requirements
What you’ll need- Baccalaureate (or higher) degree in Pharmacy from an approved school of pharmacy
- Current Registration as a Pharmacist in the State of Massachusetts, with no disciplinary actions taken
- Hospital Pharmacy experience is required.
- Must understand the basic operations of the Pharmacy Department, including processing prescriber medication orders, the operations of the Omnicell cabinets and software, Epic, the repackaging (pre-packing) machine, and any other technology that the Pharmacy employs in its operations.
- Must maintain sufficient pharmaceutical knowledge for the safe and effective distribution of medications.
- Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards
- Must be able to understand and clearly communicate with all areas of health care personnel
