About the role

  • Lead a distributed team of software engineers, data engineers, and BI developers
  • Serve as a technical advocate and organizational buffer—protecting the team from the effects of working in a large company
  • Act as liaison between the business and engineering technical leaders to give additional context to architectural and business considerations
  • Provide hands-on technical redundancy across Google Cloud Platform (GCP): setting up Google Groups, managing IAM permissions, roles, and service accounts, monitor resources and associated spend
  • Collaborate with technical leaders, product leaders, analytics users, and other data organizations to prioritize technical efforts with business outcomes in mind
  • Build a strong engineering culture rooted in collaboration, clean code, and continuous improvement
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top-tier engineering talent
  • Navigate organizational and architectural trade-offs, balancing long-term integrity with pragmatic business needs

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 3–5 years managing engineering teams
  • Strong experience leading across functions: backend, data pipelines, and BI/reporting tools
  • Demonstrated success managing distributed teams across time zones and functions
  • Must reside within a commutable distance from the Mars United Commerce Lehi, UT location
  • Deep familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), especially with IAM
  • Experience setting up Google Groups, managing IAM permissions, roles, and service accounts, and monitoring resources and spend
  • Has experience navigating complex or bureaucratic environments while maintaining agile team health
  • Understands how to balance long-term architectural integrity with pragmatic business needs
  • Passionate about building teams, not just shipping code
  • Familiarity with Python, TypeScript/Vue.js, SQL
  • Experience with BigQuery, dbt, Looker, and legacy systems in Azure
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, and some Terraform
  • Bonus: Familiarity with marketing or martech systems (e.g., customer data platforms, attribution modeling, campaign orchestration)
  • Bonus: Background in data privacy, security policies, and compliance
