About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Safely operate and control the Extrusion Press to extrude and size copper billets into shells
  • Organize the Press Crew for safe start-up at the beginning of shifts and following shutdowns
  • Maintain visual and mental concentration for safe and efficient Press operation
  • Perform pre-startup checks on container heat, pump operation, heaters, valves, heat exchanger, and nitrogen flow
  • Use the monitor and control panel to call billets and operate the Press
  • Monitor the run-out trough and lubricate the mandrel as needed
  • Clean dies and die holders as needed
  • Schedule replacement of mandrels, dies, dummy blocks, and clean-out rings based on usage, wear data, and past performance
  • Enter production and downtime information into the MES database daily
  • Safely shut down the machine at the end of the shift and week
  • Perform daily housekeeping and clean machines used during the shift
  • Follow safety rules and instructions
  • Participate in safety, quality, and process-capability improvement programs
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, quality issues, and equipment issues to supervisors or production management
  • Determine when maintenance should be called and when dies and other items should be changed or replaced
  • Assist with cost control through resource stewardship, improvement recommendations, and inventory management
  • Communicate performance and needs with supervisors, coworkers, and other production departments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Working knowledge of computers to access the MES database
  • Ability to safely operate a needle scaler, grinder, and die grinder
  • Ability to read micrometers, calipers, and other measuring equipment
  • Basic math skills
  • Knowledge and ability to safely perform all Press Crew duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to work a first-shift schedule with 12-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Must complete additional job-related screening processes following a conditional offer, as permitted or required by applicable law
